How To Prepare Stems

Logic Pro X

  1. Set Cycle Range: Highlight the full song length using the cycle region.

  2. Export Stems: Go to File > Export > All Tracks as Audio Files.

  3. Choose Settings
    Save Format: WAVE
    Bit Depth: 24 Bit
    Bypass Effect Plug-Ins: YES
    Include Volume/Pan Automation: NO
    Normalize: OFF

  4. Save & Organise: Place all the stems in one folder, and archive it into a .zip or .rar folder.

Ableton Live

  1. Set Locators: Highlight the full song length in the arrangement view.

  2. Solo & Export: Solo each track or group, then go to File > Export Audio/Video.

  3. Choose Settings
    File Type: WAV or AIFF
    Sample Rate: Same as project
    Bit Depth: 24 Bit
    Normalize: OFF

  4. Save & Organise: Place all the stems in one folder, and archive it into a .zip or .rar folder.

Pro Tools

  1. Consolidate Audio: Select all clips per track, then press Shift + Option + 3 (Mac) / Shift + Alt + 3 (Windows) to consolidate.

  2. Export Stems: Select all tracks, go to File > Export > Selected Tracks as Files

  3. Choose Settings:
    File Type: WAV
    Format: Interleaved
    Bit Depth: 24-bit
    Sample Rate: Same as session

  4. Save & Organise: Place all the stems in one folder, and archive it into a .zip or .rar folder.

FL Studio

  1. Select Full Track Range: Press Ctrl + A to select the entire song.

  2. Export Stems: Go to File > Export > WAV, and select "Split Mixer Tracks".

  3. Choose Settings
    Format: WAV
    Bit Depth: 24 Bit
    Ensure "Leave Remainder" is selected

  4. Save & Organise: Place all the stems in one folder, and archive it into a .zip or .rar folder.
